The headline numbers from the past year are solid rather than spectacular: 66 winners from 638 rides means winning roughly 1 in every 10 races, which is a respectable return in a brutally competitive sport where most rides simply don't result in victory. But zoom in on the partnership with trainer Richard Hughes and a more impressive pattern emerges. From 225 rides together, that combination has produced 33 wins — closer to 1 in every 7, or about 15 in every 100. That kind of consistency between a jockey and a trainer doesn't happen by accident. It suggests a working relationship built on genuine understanding of how the horses in that yard are best ridden.
The two moments that define Marsh's career so far, though, came on the biggest stages. A win in a top-level race at Salisbury in May 2025, followed by another at Doncaster in September 2025, means Marsh has now won 2 of the most prestigious races in British racing. These are not ordinary days at the office — Class 1 races sit at the very summit of the sport, attracting the best horses and the most experienced riders in the country. For a jockey still only three years in, landing two of them is a genuine statement of intent. Doncaster and Salisbury are also very different tracks, which suggests this isn't someone who only thrives in one set of circumstances.
At 207 career winners and still clearly on the rise, Finley Marsh is one of the more compelling young talents in British racing right now. The numbers point to a jockey who is reliable week to week, devastating at their best, and very much worth watching.
