That kind of dominance in one specific condition is rare, and it tells you something important: when rain arrives before a race day and the ground gets heavy, Ten Pounds becomes almost unbeatable. Newcastle on the all-weather track is another happy hunting ground, with 2 wins from just 3 visits — the sort of course record that makes you sit up when you see the entry.

The horse is trained by Joey Ramsden, whose yard in Newark has sent out 5 winners this season, and most of those wins with Ten Pounds have come with jockey Trevor Whelan in the saddle. Together, they have won 4 of 9 races — a win rate of 44%, nearly 1 in every 2. That is a genuine partnership, not coincidence.

The recent form shows a dip — finishes of 8th, 8th, and 13th in the last three outings — but Ten Pounds raced just one day ago and is clearly still active. The last win, at Kempton in October 2025, came in a Class 2 race. A horse that wins 1 in 3, dominates in wet conditions, and has a proven jockey who wins almost half their races together is one to follow closely whenever the forecast turns grey.
