The market favourite and top-rated horse in the field, she carries 4lbs more than most rivals — but she earned it with a win at Wetherby last month that was reportedly more comfortable than the margin suggests. She was unlucky at Beverley just six days ago, so she's back very quickly, and crucially she has never won on normal ground conditions in five attempts. That's a real flag for today.

A well-travelled seven-year-old with five career wins, he's effectively a Thirsk specialist — winning 3 from 10 there — but today is at Redcar, where his record is unknown. His last six runs show a horse that hasn't finished better than fifth recently, and he has never won on normal ground conditions. Wearing blinkers, but hard to see what changes today.

Of all the horses in this field, he actually has the best record on normal ground conditions — winning 1 from 5 on it, compared to zero wins on normal ground for most rivals including the favourite. A third-place finish at Nottingham 22 days ago shows he's in reasonable nick. Not flashy, but he arrives with a quiet ground-form edge that others lack.
Still searching for a first win from 10 races, but he keeps knocking on the door — placed four times and twice third in his last three completed runs. He's had wind surgery which sometimes sparks improvement, and at second-shortest in the market alongside the favourite, punters clearly see something here. The worry is he's been placed plenty without converting.

"He improved again when second at Thirsk last week, just bumping into a really well-handicapped horse. He's a big, raw, slow-maturing horse who'll definitely get better with time. He has a great attitude and will be a lot better than his mark at some point. 14-08-25"

She has won over this course and distance before, which immediately sets her apart from most rivals here, and she ran a solid second just 13 days ago at Ayr. The major concern is her ground record — she has never won on normal conditions in 10 attempts, with all four of her career wins coming on softer ground. That's a significant worry on a day like today.

"I haven't done too much with my 2yos but this filly actually won first time out for us back in April. I don't usually have many youngsters out at that time of the year but she was showing a lot of speed and won well. Her next run at Pontefract was a different story as she was too keen and gave herself no chance, while at Redcar last time out she encountered good to firm ground for the first time and although she ran well, I felt she would appreciate a little more cut. We will look to upping her in trip to 6f next and find some slower ground. 26-07-23"

She won at this exact course and distance just 11 days ago, making her one of only two horses in the field who have won here — and the only one in recent form. She also has a record of winning roughly 1 in 3 races on fast or dry ground, though today's normal conditions are where she's never won in six tries. That ground record is a real tension given her obvious course credentials.

He's finished on the podium in 12 of his 22 career races, which shows real consistency, but he's been beaten badly in his last two runs and has never won at Redcar in five attempts here. He has no wins on normal ground to point to either. Consistent without being threatening.
The least experienced horse in the field with just three races to his name, and he's yet to win or place in any of them. He did race at this course before — finishing fourth — so he's not completely in the dark here, but his form offers very little to get excited about. An unknown quantity more than a genuine threat.

Despite holding a rating only 2lbs below the favourite, the market has completely turned its back on her at 18-1, and her last three runs — ninth, fourteenth, eighth — do little to argue the case. Her jockey has yet to win in 13 attempts riding for this trainer, which is another concern. Hard to make a case for her here.

He's the lowest-rated horse in the field, sitting 4lbs below the average, and hasn't raced in nearly seven months — returning from the longest break of any runner alongside Startling. His last outing ended in an eleventh-place thrashing, and he's never won on normal ground in 10 attempts. He carries the least weight, but there's very little else to recommend him here.

He's one of very few horses in this field to have won at Redcar, which is a genuine standout in a race where course form matters. The problem is his recent form has fallen away badly — sixth and eleventh in his last two runs — and he's also never won on normal ground conditions in three attempts. Course form is promising but everything else points the wrong way right now.
She has the best career win rate in the field — winning roughly 1 in every 6 races — but she hasn't raced for 221 days, the longest absence of any runner here, and her last outing ended with her being pulled up. She's also partnered by a jockey who has never ridden for this trainer before, which adds more uncertainty. Plenty of ability on her best form, but too many unknowns to trust today.

How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
