The market favourite and the editorial pick, but there are real question marks: he's never raced on dry ground before and hasn't run in over seven months — the longest absence in the field. He's also drawn in stall 12, the widest draw in the race, which stats suggest is the least favourable position here. Plenty of potential, but a lot has to go right on debut under these conditions.

Won at Wetherby just over three weeks ago and was second at Thirsk only four days ago — he's clearly in a purple patch of form and runs here fresh off that effort. He wins roughly 1 in 7 races and has placed on nearly half his career starts, making him one of the more reliable competitors in the field. The quick turnaround is worth monitoring, but his recent form makes him an interesting each-way contender.
A third place at Nottingham just 11 days ago shows he's in decent enough nick, and he carries one of the lighter weights in the field. However, he has never won on a left-handed galloping track in seven attempts — and Ayr fits that description perfectly. Consistent enough to hit the frame, but his track record here works against him.
Eighteen races in and his two wins have come on softer ground — on today's dry surface he has zero wins from nine attempts, which is a significant red flag. Recent form makes for grim reading too: sixth, eleventh, and fourth in his last three outings. Stall 4 is a decent draw, but the form and ground stats point firmly against him.
Drawn in stall 1, which historically gives the best chance around this course and distance. Only six races into his career and still learning, but his best form has come on normal or dry ground at around a mile — both boxes ticked today. A distant sixth at Epsom last time out is a concern, but that was a tougher track and he's dropped into a more competitive rating group now.

The most experienced horse in the field with 32 races behind him, but only two wins to show for it — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 16 outings. He has never won on dry ground in six attempts, which is a significant concern given today's conditions. Hard to make a case for him at a big price.

The standout course record in this field: five wins from seven races here at Ayr is extraordinary and sets her apart from every other runner. She wins roughly 1 in 3 races across her career, the best win rate in the field. The worry is her last three runs — seventh, ninth, and tenth — suggesting she may not be in the form of her life right now.

At 11 years old, Garden Oasis is by far the eldest in the field and has two wins from four visits to this course, making him one of only two course winners here. He's also running into a bit of form — second at Pontefract and third at Ripon in his last two. Don't write off the old boy, especially on a track he clearly likes.

The lowest-rated horse in the field by some margin — 10 points below the field average — and carries the lightest weight as a result. Her recent form shows three consecutive finishes outside the top six, and she has never won on dry ground in five attempts. The low weight gives her a theoretical edge in a sprint finish, but the ratings gap and poor form make her a long shot.

At 12 years old, Redarna is the eldest horse in the race and has three wins from ten visits to this course — a solid Ayr record on paper. However, his last two runs were finishing positions of 12th in both outings, beaten a long way each time. It's hard to see what changes today to reverse that recent slide.

Has won half his races on artificial indoor tracks but has never won on good ground in five attempts — and today's dry conditions make this a straightforward concern. His best form has also come over slightly longer distances than today's mile. Hard to fancy on these terms despite a decent overall record.

Has the best record of any horse in the field over today's exact distance of a mile, winning 3 from 7 at this trip. Three of her four career wins have come right here at Ayr, so she clearly loves the track. She was seventh here just 15 days ago, but that came after a long break — getting that run under her belt could make a difference.
How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
