TrackLab Insight
The market favourite carries top weight but boasts a genuine anomaly: 2 wins from just 5 races at this trip, meaning 40% of his career wins come at five furlongs. However, his recent form sours the picture—a 4th at Beverley 29 days ago suggests he's not reproducing that explosive five-furlong form right now, and he's struggled on normal ground previously (0 wins from 3 starts).

The standout statistic: 1 win in every 4 races over his career (22% from 36 starts), the best strike-rate in the field by clear margin. Standard ground is his playground (7 wins from 18), and he's a Newcastle specialist with 5 wins from 15 there, but he's ice-cold on anything firmer than standard and has yet to win at Ayr in 6 tries.

Trainer Quotes
May 2025
"He's had a brilliant all-weather season. We're at a crossroads with him because we're not sure if he's done enough or not, or if we need to change tactics. He's hard to catch on the all-weather but the turf is slightly different to the all-weather and we're not sure if we're going too hard or not hard enough. He's still quite an exciting horse. If you look at the sectionals at Musselburgh in a very strong race last month it was very good. We probably used up a lot of petrol with Gweedore and I think if we'd have been left alone then we'd have been first or second. That's Ayr Gold Cup form and we're taking on Class 2 handicappers, so he's interesting. He's obviously very fast. 07-05-25"

The only true course specialist here: 12 wins from 34 at Hamilton Park (35%), with a win just 21 days ago and a 3rd just 6 days back. At 8 years old she's Hamilton's banker if any horse is, but running again after just 6 days is knife-edge timing, and her record on soft ground is terrible (1 win from 13 starts).

Runs today off the back of a narrow 2nd at Musselburgh just yesterday—an extraordinary ask physically and mentally. While she's won roughly 1 in 6 races and shows promise on good ground (3 wins from 11), she's never won on normal ground (0 from 6 starts) and forms a devastating pattern of recent placings without victory.

Fresh off a win at Newcastle 36 days ago and second in the market at 6.5, this 5-year-old mare is the only runner showing genuine winning momentum. She's effective on standard ground (2 wins from 9) and sits perfectly weighted, but she's never won on normal ground in 9 attempts—a genuine worry for today's conditions.

Just outside the top two on rating, but this horse is a one-track wonder: 2 wins from 3 at Carlisle and won there just 10 days before his most recent outing. The critical problem is staring you in the face—he's never won on normal ground (0 from 3), never won on good ground (0 from 8), and struggles on left-handed galloping tracks like Hamilton (0 from 9).

A genuine class act on the right underfoot conditions—he wins roughly 1 in 7 races but excels on standard ground (50% from 4 starts) and heavy going (40% from 5). The problem is how poorly he's run recently (17th at York 70 days ago, 5th at Newcastle 36 days ago), and critically, he's never won on normal ground in 9 attempts.

The surprise candidate: his record on normal ground is the best in the field at 3 wins from 9 (33%), a genuine edge no other horse matches. A 3rd at Hamilton just 21 days ago keeps him in consideration, but recent form is patchy overall (11th at York just 7 days ago), and he's never won on good-to-firm or soft ground.

The outlier: a 9-year-old carrying the lightest weight who hasn't won in 22 months despite regular racing, with just 7 wins from 63 career races. He does have solid form on standard ground (2 wins from 10) and soft ground (3 wins from 10), but his recent form is dead (6th twice in his last two outings) and he's simply too far down the pecking order on rating.

Another Hamilton specialist: 2 wins from just 5 visits and a winner here 37 days ago, with a 3rd just 15 days back suggesting he's bouncing back into form. However, this 4-year-old is a creature of very specific conditions—soft ground gets the best out of him (2 wins from 5), and he's never won on good-to-soft from 6 attempts.

A durable 6-year-old with 65 career races who rewards consistency rather than glamour, but he's hit a real skid: 10th at Ayr just 19 days ago after a 4th at Thirsk. His one genuine strength—3 wins from 19 at Newcastle—means nothing here, and he's never won on good ground, good-to-soft, or soft ground combined.

TrackLab Insight
A specialist track horse with a weird profile: a Southwell virtuoso (3 wins from 3) who is essentially nowhere else, but he's not running at Southwell today. He wins half his races on standard ground (5 from 10), which helps, but he's a distant 6th and 4th in his last three outings and has struggled badly on good ground overall (1 win from 19).

How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
