On softer, muddier terrain those numbers drop away, which suggests the team choose their targets carefully. He has also shown a real fondness for Southwell, winning 2 of the 3 times he has raced there. Course specialists are genuinely useful — a horse that simply goes well at a particular track, for whatever reason, is worth paying attention to when the entries go up.

His regular jockey is Paul Mulrennan, who has ridden him in 15 of his 32 races and won 4 of them — a win rate of around 27%, which is comfortably above average. After a win at Haydock, Mulrennan was clear that this is a horse still finding improvement: "He hasn't stopped improving yet." That is exactly the kind of comment that turns heads, because a horse still moving forward at five is a horse with more to give.

Jim Goldie, speaking on a stable tour, acknowledged that the team are at a genuine crossroads with Oriental Prince. He has been brilliant on the all-weather surface across the winter and spring, but the turf is posing different questions. Goldie was open about the uncertainty — push too hard and you burn through his energy, hold back and you might miss the moment. The reference to strong sectionals at Musselburgh last month suggests there is real quality in there; it is just a matter of finding the right key. His last win came at Newcastle on 1 November 2025, and at Class 3 level — one rung below the very top races — he has yet to break through in 7 attempts. That is the next frontier. Whether he can crack it is the question worth watching.
