Only one win from 11 races is a modest return, but Hoodie Hoo ran a solid second just 18 days ago at Lingfield and arrives here in reasonable nick. A low draw in stall 4 is a real asset at Chester, where that part of the track carries a strong advantage. The one concern is that its only win came on artificial ground, with no wins recorded on natural turf so far.

Clonmacash has won 5 of its 28 races at Dundalk, a track it clearly loves, but Chester is a very different challenge — a tight, unique left-handed loop that rewards familiarity. The booking of stall 1 is the best draw in the race statistically, and it arrives here in cracking form having won last time out. Worth respecting despite the track switch, though the jockey has drawn a blank in 9 rides over the last fortnight.

With 42 races under its belt, Secret Guest is one of the most experienced horses in this field, and it actually has a strong record on normal ground — winning 4 of 13 races in those conditions. The trainer has won 2 from just 5 runners in the last two weeks, which is excellent, and a low draw in stall 3 is a bonus at Chester. Recent form has been patchy but the conditions today suit better than anything it has faced lately.

Kiniro hasn't raced in nearly seven months and has a poor record on left-handed galloping tracks — Chester is exactly that — with zero wins from five attempts on that track type. The market has lost faith dramatically, drifting from 7 to 17 despite top jockey Oisin Murphy taking the ride. Hard to be positive given the absence and the track profile.

Kirkdale arrives here in the form of its life, having won its last two races back-to-back at Wolverhampton and Southwell — the only horse in this field to have won two on the bounce. It also has a strong record at this trip, winning 1 in 3 at five to six and a half furlongs. The big drawback is stall 14 — statistically one of the worst draws at Chester over this trip — which makes the drifting odds from 15 to 29 understandable.

The market has cooled on this one significantly — odds drifting from 23 to 36 tells its own story — and drawing stall 15 in a race where the low draws win at more than twice the rate of high ones is a serious problem. Bright has a decent enough career record of 6 wins from 26 races, but all three of those recent wins have come at Newcastle, and there is no evidence it handles normal ground conditions. Hard to make a case here.

The best career win rate in the entire field — winning roughly 1 in 3 races — is the headline, but almost all of that success has come at Newcastle, where it has won 7 of 10 races. The problem is a damning record on normal ground — zero wins from 7 races in those conditions — and Chester is a very different test to the tracks it dominates. Hard to trust here despite the impressive CV.

With 103 races on the clock, Intervention is by far the most experienced horse in a field that averages 31 races per runner. The concern for today is stark — it has never won on normal ground conditions in 13 attempts, and Chester is a left-handed, undulating circuit where it has also failed to win in five tries. Despite a competitive recent run at Nottingham, the conditions today look wrong for it.

The standout fact here is four wins at Chester specifically — no other horse in this field comes close to that level of course experience, making this the course specialist of the race. It won here as recently as last season and clearly handles this tight, unique circuit better than most. The concern is a seven-month absence and two poor runs before the break, so fitness on return is the key unknown.

Queue Dos has a phenomenal record at Wolverhampton — winning 4 from 7 races there — but has never won on normal ground conditions, which is precisely what today offers. Stall 16 is also the worst possible draw at Chester over this trip, where horses drawn that high almost never win. A huge market outsider at 51, and the data backs up that assessment for this track and conditions.
