Recently active with back-to-back wins at Uttoxeter and Stratford, but a recent unseating at Perth three weeks ago is a concern heading into this race. Second-highest rated at 128, he thrives on good ground (25% win rate) but has never won on anything softer, and he's a complete non-event on left-handed galloping tracks like Bangor. His modest 11% career win rate masks a horse in decent current form.

"He ran a great race at Doncaster, and he'll probably have one more run over hurdles and then go chasing in the summer. We'll see a different horse over a fence as he jumps so well. He'll be a really good summer chaser. 26-03-26"

Lowest-rated horse but jumping out of his skin with three consecutive wins and just raced eight days ago at Newton Abbot—he's the sharpest horse in the field on paper. At 31% win rate he matches Sure Touch for consistency, and he carries the least weight in the race while stepping up just two classes. The one question mark: he's 0 from 7 on good-to-soft ground, and he has zero race experience on left-handed tracks like Bangor, making this a step into the unknown.

Genuine form horse with three straight top-3 finishes, including a win at Market Rasen 61 days ago, and wins roughly one in four races (23% career rate). The jockey pairing is entirely new, which carries unknown risk, and while she excels on good-to-soft ground (38% win rate), she's never won on soft. At 7.6 odds, she represents solid value off the back of solid recent racing.

The only course winner in this field (1 from 6 at Bangor) and the only horse with a previous win at this exact distance, giving him clear track-specific credentials. At 12 years old he's still placing in three of every four races (76% win rate in finishing the race), with three straight top-3 finishes, but his last win came nearly two years ago and the form book shows he's raced 53 days ago. Age and consistency work in his favour, but he hasn't tasted victory recently.

"Our biggest earner so far this season and most prolific with four wins. He did us proud last summer, when among his wins was the valuable Fixed Brush Hurdle Series Final at Worcester in September. Last time out he finished third in the Grade 3 Persian War Hurdle at Chepstow, after which we gave him a well-deserved break, but he is back now and will be ready for when we get the better ground. He will have a busy spring and if I can get him there I know his owners, The Turner Family, would love him to run at Cheltenham. That will be the plan and we would be looking at something like the Coral Cup or Martin Pipe Hurdle, but after that I think he could go chasing again. 09-02-23"

"He's a fine-looking, talented horse with a good pedigree who's still very raw. He raced a bit back to front at Cheltenham and you can't do that round there. I think the only thing that will steady him is a fence. He's done a lot of schooling over them and I think that's what we'll do now. He wouldn't want bad ground. 09-11-20"

Top-rated by 5lbs and wins roughly one in three races—the most reliable horse in the field with a 33% win rate over 27 runs. His course record at Market Rasen is outstanding (3 wins from 5), but he arrives here off a poor 4th at Uttoxeter 40 days ago and has never won on normal ground. The jockey-trainer combo is proven at this level with 25 wins together.

Editorial selection despite poor recent form: beaten 44.8 lengths at Worcester just 12 days ago and 50.2 lengths at Cartmel before that. He has genuine staying pedigree (38% win rate at 1m6f–2m distances) and won a Class 1 race at Cheltenham, but the layoff between his Cartmel defeat and Worcester start suggests he may not be wound up. At 17.0 odds, the gap between the ratings and his recent performances is a red flag.
How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
