In jump racing, momentum matters enormously, and O'Connor will be aware that he needs a run of results to get things moving again.

The most interesting thread in his career so far is his partnership with trainer Henry De Bromhead, one of Ireland's most respected yards. That's more than double his overall rate this season, which tells you that when De Bromhead puts him up, the combination genuinely works. Getting more opportunities from a yard of that quality would be a significant step forward for O'Connor's career.

Two wins from 38 races on soft ground gives him a 5% win rate in those conditions — not spectacular, but meaningfully better than his overall 3% this season. Some jockeys simply ride better when the ground is testing, and if O'Connor is one of them, that's a useful weapon heading into the winter months when conditions regularly turn heavy.

At 51 career winners and still only four years in, O'Connor is by no means a story that's written yet. But this season has been a quiet one, and the gap between where he is and where he wants to be is real. The De Bromhead connection offers a foothold — if he can turn that relationship into more regular rides, and rediscover the form that made last year more productive, the next twelve months could look very different.
