The market favourite at 4.3, Methgal steps up two classes here after a 2nd place at Yarmouth 16 days ago—a bold move that reflects trainer Dylan Cunha's confidence. He has just one win from 19 races, but that sole victory came on standard ground, and while this track is firm, his recent form and the bookmakers' faith suggest he has a live chance if the step up in class doesn't sting.

Beelzebub won here just 52 days ago and has now finished top-three in his last three races—form that stands out clearly in this field. He wins roughly 1 in every 9 races, but his record on good-to-firm ground is solid at 20%, and a course winner who is in peak form deserves serious respect.

Trainer Quotes
Mar 2023
"He didn't see a racecourse until late October, but he quickly learned his trade and on the third attempt, at Chelmsford in December, he came good over 6f. He is a lovely horse owned by an Australia syndicate (Nas Syndicate II & Partners) and I think off his opening mark of 75 he is capable of winning. There is a race at Newcastle early next month that looks ideal and he could go there as he is in good form and I have been very happy with how he has been training. I think he will be a 7f horse, but towards the end of the year the mile should be fine for him. 29-03-23"

May Encounter is the higher-rated horse at 55 OR and has been chosen as the editorial selection's main rival, but she has failed to win in nine career races and has never finished better than 4th in her last six starts. With just nine races under her belt and no form in top-two finishes, she looks green at 12.0 odds for this company.

Rye has been placed nine times in 18 races but never won—a horse that consistently finishes in the money without ever crossing the line. She was second at this course just 82 days ago, so Windsor clearly suits her, but that persistent inability to win despite clear competitiveness is a real problem at odds of 8.5.

Legendsoftheland has the best win rate in the field at 20% and has just won at Ffos Las with three straight top-three finishes, but all his strength comes at five to six and a half furlongs—this race at six furlongs sits at the top of his range. His odds of 10.0 reflect genuine danger, especially in a field where recent form is everything.

Rianka has just won at Great Yarmouth 21 days ago in only her fifth career race, showing a promising 20% win rate on good-to-firm ground. However, she struggled badly at this course 59 and 73 days ago, finishing 7th and 5th respectively—suggesting Windsor does not suit her, and at 7.0 odds the recent win may have fooled the market.

The most experienced horse in the field with 54 career races and a win at this course and distance on her record, Lahina Bay is genuinely suited by Windsor and dry ground. Her record on good-to-firm is excellent at 22%, and she was third here just 10 days ago, but at 16.0 odds she will need to overturn a year-long drought on fast tracks to justify the selection.

Beach Partee has won three times from 23 races and was 2nd at Brighton just eight days ago on good-to-firm ground, but he has not won since November 2025 and has never won on firm/fast ground in seven attempts. His partnership with Luke Morris shows 38% win rate together, but that jockey is not riding him today—Jack Gilligan takes over.

The Feminine Urge has her best record at six furlongs (1 from 5) and suits dry ground with two wins from 11 starts on good-to-firm, but her most recent effort—6th at Ffos Las nine days ago—was a heavy defeat. At 36.0 odds, she is not the answer here despite the course fit.

Elmfield is lightly raced with just three career starts and finished third at Bath 13 days ago, suggesting she may be approaching a breakthrough win. At 19.5 odds, she offers value if you believe a young horse without experience in this company can handle the step up, but her limited record makes her hard to trust in a competitive field.

One For Harvey has one win from 15 races and her best record comes on good-to-firm ground (1 from 3), which suits today's conditions perfectly. However, she hasn't raced in nearly a year before this week, and a 308-day gap between recent runs is a serious red flag at 41.0 odds.

Ragaire is the worst-rated horse in the field by 10 lengths below average, has never won or placed in four races, and has never raced on dry ground—making today's firm conditions a complete unknown. His most recent three efforts saw him finish 9th, 12th, and 15th, a pattern of deterioration that makes him impossible to back at any odds.

How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
