The market favourite at 5.8 but returning from 186 days off after winning at Kempton last November—one of the longest absences in the field. His 40% record on standard-to-slow ground is strong, and he carries a proven 25% win rate, but that break will have done damage to race fitness.

Youngest horse in the field at three years old but carries the best career win rate at 40% (2 from 5 races) and is 2 from 3 over seven furlongs specifically. Just beaten 0.5L at Chester 50 days ago, this progressive colt looks a genuine threat despite limited data, and the rating reflects it at 7.0 odds.

Trainer Quotes
Sep 2025
"He went to Musselburgh for his debut and went off at 33-1 but we went there thinking he'd run well and we weren't surprised when he won. He wasn't showing us a lot at the start of the year but we were really chuffed with the way he was working before his first run and then he took a massive step forward. Going for the Acomb at York was a tough ask but we'd had an offer after his debut, which wasn't quite enough, and we were looking to increase his value. He'll have an entry in the horses in training sale. 10-09-25"

The editorial pick, and the clock supports it—time figures back Valvano's progressive profile despite carrying high draw penalty at 10. One win from ten races is modest, but the trajectory matters more here: two thirds in his last three, and he's never raced on normal ground, so this surface and conditions are genuinely unknown territory where improvement could arrive.

The standout for this specific race: he's won over Southwell at this exact distance and carries a phenomenal 75% win rate on standard ground (3 from 4). Recent form is patchy (8th, 9th, 23rd), but the course-distance credentials and ground suitability are genuinely compelling here.

Returning from 569 days off the track—easily the longest absence in the field—after finishing last at Meydan in November 2024. His 33% win rate from six races looks encouraging on paper, but horses this lightly raced after such a layoff are genuinely unpredictable, and he's never raced on normal ground either.

TrackLab Insight
Placed in 2 of his last 3 races including a win at Redcar 118 days ago, but then crashed to 13th at Newmarket and 9th at Windsor suggesting form is fragile. At 25% win rate from just 8 career races, he hasn't raced enough to be trusted at this level despite the recent sparkle.

Lowest-rated runner carrying minimum weight, but his 11% career win rate (3 from 27) is the second-worst in the field. Editorial mentions him as warranting respect, but recent form is poor—11th, 5th, 8th—and he's never raced on normal ground, which is a significant disadvantage here.

The top-rated runner by a clear margin and the editorial's named chief danger. Won 2 of 4 races at the Curragh (his hunting ground), but both his most recent efforts at Fairyhouse came up empty, and he's never raced on normal ground—a genuine unknown factor that dampens enthusiasm despite the high rating.

31% win rate from 16 races is solid, with five wins already banked and a recent victory at Chepstow 71 days ago. Currently active and consistently placing, but he's lowest-rated by 3lbs below the field average, and those odds at 21.0 suggest the market sees him as an outsider in this tighter Class 3 contest.

The only course specialist in the field—5 wins from 14 races at Southwell—and he's already won this exact race and distance before. At nine years old with 28% win rate across 39 races, he's proven reliable, though 156 days away and a soft-ground problem mean he'll need conditions to bounce back to his best.

Three consecutive top-3 finishes gives shape to his profile, but the 13th place at Windsor just 20 days ago is a jarring step backward. At 41.0 odds and carrying the lowest weight from draw 1, he's an outsider for a reason—23% career win rate and poor record on normal ground are real concerns.

27% win rate looks respectable, but he hasn't won since July 2025—over a year ago—and recent form reads as dire: 7th, 16th, and 12th in his last three races. At 28.0 odds carrying high draw 12, he's an outsider for good reason despite the strong ground preference.

Won at Ffos Las just 60 days ago but then struggled badly at York and Salisbury either side, suggesting soft or fast ground suits him better than normal conditions. With 20% win rate and inconsistent recent form, he's capable but not the obvious choice in a competitive heat.

Highest career win rate in the field at 36% (4 from 11), with a recent victory at Epsom 46 days ago, but that win was immediately followed by a 5th, and then a shocking 13th at Goodwood just 15 days back. Form is volatile and the 41.0 odds reflect legitimate concerns despite the headline statistics.

How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
