Willem Twee

The problem, and it is a significant one, is that Willem Twee has not won in his last six races. His recent form reads 13-3-3-9-10-12, which shows some promise in the middle races (those two thirds suggest he was competitive) but no breakthrough. He last won on 1 August 2024 at Wolverhampton, now 24 months in the rearview. At Wolverhampton he was winning a Class 2 race on an artificial surface, which points to a crucial detail: he has a genuine liking for fast, dry ground, winning two of his four races on such conditions — a 50 per cent win rate that stands out sharply against his overall form. By contrast, he struggles at Class 2 level in general, winning just once from 12 attempts there.

Denis Coakley's yard at West Ilsley has sent out 10 winners this season, so there is nothing obviously wrong with the training setup. Jockey Daniel Muscutt has ridden Willem Twee 16 times and won four of those races (25 per cent), a fraction slightly better than the horse's career average. Kempton Park is another course where the horse has shown promise — two wins from six races there suggests it suits him. With a dry-ground preference and proven ability at certain venues, Willem Twee remains a horse worth following in the right conditions, but the year-plus drought without a win leaves real questions about whether he still has a victory left in him.
