Has placed in two of his last three races and arrives in reasonable form, but his record on faster ground is where his wins have come — he has no win on soft ground in the data. The jockey and trainer have never partnered together before, which adds a small layer of uncertainty on a day when the conditions already demand familiarity.
Top-rated horse in the field by 7lbs, which means the handicapper thinks he's clearly the best horse here on paper. The problem is he has never raced on wet ground before, and today's soft conditions are a genuine unknown — his two career wins both came in different circumstances. His odds drifted badly before the race, which suggests those closest to him aren't confident.

The course specialist in this field — two wins from four races here at Ballinrobe, including over this exact course and distance, which no other runner can match. The catch is a glaring one: he has never won on soft ground in four attempts, and today's wet surface is a real concern. His jockey has been in decent form lately, but the trainer hasn't had a winner in the last two weeks.

The editorial pick for this race, and the reason is straightforward — he won over this exact course and distance last year on his seasonal return. The big question is the 216-day absence, the longest in the field, and the fact that he has never won on soft ground in five attempts. If he handles the wet conditions, his course form makes him the one to beat; if not, that record is hard to ignore.

Carries the lowest weight in the field and has the best career win rate of any runner here — winning roughly 1 in every 5 races. The problem is he has never won on soft ground in four attempts, and all six of his career wins have come on standard ground. He's also never won on right-handed galloping tracks in 11 attempts, and Ballinrobe fits that description exactly.

Trainer Quotes
Sep 2024
"His owners, the Twenty Stars Partnership, have been lucky for us. He's always shown very little at home - hence we probably got the trip very wrong during his three-year-old campaign. He jarred himself up on fast ground and he's come back much more comfortable in 2024. He ran up a nice sequence on the all-weather, winning a nice bonus, and he's been very consistent. We'll hopefully find him another race before the end of the turf season. He handles a bit of juice in the ground and arguably his best race was at Yarmouth on soft ground, so that's the sort of thing we'd be looking at. 04-09-24"

Unusually, she has the best record in this field on today's soft ground — winning once from four attempts on it — which makes her stand out on conditions alone. She's also running again just four days after her last race, which is a quick turnaround and worth watching. However, 42 career races and only three wins tells you she needs everything to go right.
Best record on this ground (1 from 4)Runs again after just 4 days
One of the least experienced horses in the field with just seven career races and still searching for a first win. The last two runs have no finishing positions recorded, which makes him genuinely difficult to assess heading into this. His trainer has had no winners in the last two weeks and his jockey-trainer combination has never won together in 12 attempts.

The most experienced horse in the field by a distance — 55 races compared to a field average of 24 — but at ten years old, he's deep into his career and his recent form is uninspiring. He's never won on soft ground in nine attempts, which is a significant red flag for today. His best form has come at the Curragh, not here at Ballinrobe.
A big outsider at 23.0 and the form makes it hard to argue otherwise — she finished 12th at the Curragh last time out, beaten nearly 28 lengths. Her one career win came over a year ago, and nothing since has suggested a revival is imminent. The wet ground isn't a dealbreaker — she has placed on heavy ground before — but the overall picture is of a horse struggling for form.
Seven races in and still without a win, with just one top-three finish to show across his whole career. He finished 11th at Limerick only 13 days ago, beaten more than 16 lengths, so the recent form offers little encouragement. His trainer has drawn a blank with all 14 runners in the last two weeks, making this a tough ask.
How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
