The most significant relationship in his career so far is with trainer Tim Easterby, and it's easy to see why that partnership keeps getting stronger. Of Dickson's 53 rides for the Easterby yard, 6 have ended in victory — again around 1 in every 9 — and when a young jockey and an experienced trainer start trusting each other, that number tends to move in one direction. Easterby is one of the most prolific trainers in the north of England, so getting regular rides from that stable is both an opportunity and a test. Dickson appears to be passing it.
Where things get genuinely interesting is on wet or soft ground. In the ten races he has ridden on softer going, Dickson has won 2 of them — a 20% win rate, or 1 in every 5. That might sound like a small sample, but doubling your overall win rate in any specific condition is a real signal. Some jockeys simply have a feel for riding on ground that is a little more forgiving underfoot, adjusting their timing and their horse's rhythm instinctively. It's too early to call it a specialism, but it's worth watching.
At just two years in, Dickson is still very much in the phase where every winner counts and every season matters more than the last. Eight winners from 72 rides won't set the world
