What makes Star Cast particularly interesting is what those wins say about where she belongs. She has tried Class 5 racing — the bread-and-butter, everyday level of the sport — eight times and won precisely none of them. Step her up in class, though, and a different horse seems to emerge. Her three wins have come at higher levels, suggesting she is one of those rare animals that actually raises her game when the competition stiffens. Some horses are comfortable at the bottom; Star Cast seems to need a challenge.

Newcastle is her spiritual home. She has raced there 12 times and won 3 of them — a rate of 1 in 4 at a single track, which in racing terms is extraordinary. Most horses never win at the same course twice, let alone make a habit of it. Her very first career win came at Newcastle back in January 2026, and she has kept returning to the well ever since.

Behind the horse is trainer Gemma Tutty, based in Osmotherley in North Yorkshire, whose yard has sent out 20 winners already this season — a serious number for a smaller operation. Tutty has spoken about Star Cast being bred for longer distances and for softer, wetter ground, and the recent spell of form suggests those conditions may finally be arriving. The horse came from the yard of Mark Prescott, one of the shrewdest trainers in British racing, and her mother ran at a high level — which hints that there may be more to come as she steps up in trip.

She raced just yesterday and won at Ripon days before that. For a 4-year-old with momentum, a trainer who clearly understands her, and a course record at Newcastle that borders on uncanny, Star Cast looks like a horse still finding her ceiling.
