The trainer has always believed in his potential. When Candonomore was a younger horse, Candlish observed that he showed genuine promise over distance — a horse capable of running a mile and beyond — and predicted there would be good races for him if he kept progressing. That faith has been partly vindicated: his last victory at Bath came three months ago, the most recent success in a career that began with a breakthrough win at Haydock Park in April 2024.

Where Candonomore really stands out is his partnership with jockey David Allan. The two have combined for three wins from fourteen races together, a win rate of 21 percent — significantly better than his record overall. That kind of improvement with a specific rider often means they understand each other, that Allan knows how to manage the horse's race and when to ask for effort. It suggests there is a working relationship worth watching.

At Class 4 level — the middle-ranking races where he has competed most often — Candonomore has won only 1 of 13 races, which reflects how competitive that grade is. His wins have come more often outside that tier, hinting that he may suit certain tracks or slightly easier racing. At five years old and still racing, he remains a horse capable of picking off races, even if the odds are never heavily in his favour.
