South Shore

His two wins give you a useful snapshot of the journey so far. The first came at Windsor in April 2024, and his most recent — at Wetherby in June 2025 — showed he can find the front when conditions suit. Wetherby is a straightforward, fair track that tends to reward horses who know their job, and South Shore clearly did his there. The fact that win came eleven months ago, and that he has not won in the six races since, is worth noting — but it is not unusual for a horse at this level to go through lean spells, particularly one who is still learning.

Most of his racing has come in Class 6 company, which is the entry-level tier of British racing. In those races he has won 1 from 10, a 10% win rate — roughly 1 in every 10 goes. James Sullivan has ridden him in 13 of his 28 races, winning once together, and that partnership looks likely to continue. His recent form — finishing fifth, fifth, sixth, fifth, fourth, and fifth in his last six outings — paints a picture of a horse who is running respectably but not yet threatening to win. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly being kept busy.

Ruth Carr's instinct to keep developing him rather than push too hard suggests she believes there is a better version of South Shore still to emerge. Whether that version shows up soon is the question worth watching.
