Put it on normal ground conditions and that form improves further: five wins from twenty races suggests Sophiesticate is a horse that thrives when the track is firm and fast rather than heavy or waterlogged. In Class 5 company, where it typically races, it has won 2 of 17, which is respectable middle-of-the-road form, but nothing that hints at a horse about to scale greater heights.

Paul Mulrennan rides it regularly and the partnership works: three wins from fifteen races together give them a 20% win rate, nearly double the horse's overall average. That kind of consistency suggests they understand each other. Trainer R Mike Smith, based at Galston in East Ayrshire, has described Sophiesticate as a progressive type with improvement still to come — a horse from a strong Galileo pedigree that continues to climb. The recent form tells a mixed picture: a win last time out followed by two third-place finishes before that, so there is competitive form mixed with quieter efforts. At seven, this is an experienced campaigner that knows how to find the frame, and when Musselburgh is on the card, there is every reason to think it will be competitive.
