That kind of output puts Carroll among the busiest and most productive trainers in the country, and Port Erin is one of the horses helping to keep that tally ticking over. For a racing partnership, that is a genuinely strong record.

Port Erin does most of his racing at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter end of the sport, where competitive fields and tight margins make winning harder than it looks. He has won 4 of his 19 races at that level, roughly 1 in 5, which is respectable without being spectacular. What he does like, though, is normal ground — standard conditions suit him well, and he has won 2 of just 5 races on it, a 40% win rate that really stands out. That is almost 1 in every 2 races when the track is neither too wet nor too dry, which tells you something useful about when to pay attention to him.

His recent form reads 11-9-11-1-3-1, which is a mixed picture — two blanks either side of some decent efforts — but the important numbers are the two wins tucked in there, including a victory at Sandown Park in August 2025. Sandown is a quality venue, and winning there is never straightforward. He raced just one day ago, so he is very much in the thick of things right now, with his trainer clearly happy to keep him busy. For a horse operating in the lower tiers of the sport, Port Erin has carved out a career that rewards anyone patient enough to follow him.
