Marching Mac

The partnership with jockey Grace McEntee is central to the story. Riding together in 23 of those 31 races, she has steered Marching Mac to five of its seven wins, a rate of roughly 1 in every 4 rides. That kind of familiarity between horse and rider tends to matter, especially on trickier tracks, and Brighton is where it has shown most clearly. Two wins from just four races at the seaside circuit makes Marching Mac a genuine course specialist there — and that is a stat worth remembering. Brighton is an unusual, undulating track that horses can take time to figure out; to win half your races on it suggests a real affinity.

Wet and muddy ground brings out something extra in this horse. Two wins from five races in those conditions — a 40% win rate — is a striking number. To put that in context, it wins roughly 1 in 5 races overall, but on heavy ground that jumps to 2 in every 5. Conditions that make plenty of horses miserable seem to suit Marching Mac just fine.

The most recent win came at Leicester in late October 2025, and at the time of writing this horse raced just nine days ago, so it is firmly in active training. The recent form reads 10-4-9-4-2-1 going back from that Leicester victory — a mixed picture, but the direction of travel at the end of last year was encouraging. Phil McEntee's yard has been in good nick this season, sending out 20 winners, which suggests the whole operation is ticking along nicely.

Competing mainly at Class 6 — the bread-and-butter end of British racing — Marching Mac has won 2 of its 10 races at that level, a 20% win rate that is perfectly solid without being spectacular. The bigger numbers come on wet tracks and at Brighton. Keep an eye on the weather forecast.
