Zoulu Chief

The career highlights are genuine ones. A first win came at Newbury in May 2023, and just three months later Zoulu Chief stepped up to win a top-level Class 2 race at York — one of the most prestigious tracks in Britain, where the standard is high and nothing comes easily. Winning there marks a horse out as a cut above the ordinary. The most recent victory came at Wolverhampton in November 2025, rounding out a career that has seen Zoulu Chief operate consistently at the Class 2 level, winning 1 from 7 races at that grade (around 14%). That's not a dominant record at that level, but simply competing regularly in those races — and winning one — says something real about quality.

Recent form tells a more mixed story: the last six runs read 9-10-3-1-2-3, meaning a win and two second-or-third-place finishes, but also a couple of runs where things clearly didn't click. That single win in the sequence — the Wolverhampton victory six months ago — now sits as the most recent success, and the subsequent runs suggest Zoulu Chief is working hard to find that winning thread again.

Behind the horse is Heather Main, a trainer based in the Oxfordshire village of Kingston Lisle. It's a smaller yard operating at the sharper end of the sport, and 17 winners sent out already this season is a solid return that reflects real skill in placing horses in the right races. Main has already shown she can get Zoulu Chief to a Class 2 winner's enclosure once — getting back there will be the aim.
