What makes the picture a little more puzzling is where Yorkshire Myth has been asked to do it. Class 6 is the entry level of British racing — these are the races designed to give horses like this the best possible chance of winning. And yet across seven attempts at that level, the record reads zero from seven. That is not just a horse finding the competition tough; it is a horse that has not yet figured out how to get its head in front even when the bar has been set as low as it goes.

Trainer R P Burns, based at Collinstown in County Westmeath, has had five winners on the board this season, so the yard is clearly capable of getting horses ready to win. Yorkshire Myth has been given a short break of 58 days since its last run, which sometimes signals a trainer trying to reset and come back with a fresh plan. Whether that breathing space translates into something different on the track remains to be seen. For now, the name Yorkshire Myth feels a little on the nose — the winning version of this horse is still, very much, the stuff of myth.
