Wen Moon

Trained by Ben Haslam at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire — a busy, productive yard that has sent out 35 winners already this season — Wen Moon has spent most of its career competing at Class 4 level, the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, a step or two below the big occasions. That context matters: winning 1 from 14 at Class 4 (just 7%) tells you this horse has to work hard to get its nose in front, and that a win, when it comes, is genuinely earned rather than handed to it.

The most recent win came at Musselburgh in November 2025, and the fact that it was a wet November day at a Scottish track will surprise absolutely nobody who has followed this horse. Regular partner Andrew Mullen has been in the saddle for 10 of its races together, winning once — the numbers are modest, but Mullen clearly knows this horse well and keeps coming back. The recent form figures of 3-15-1-5-6-7 show a horse that can still find the front end — that third-place finish most recently is encouraging — even if the big wins are not coming in clusters.

Wen Moon raced just yesterday, which means it is right in the thick of a busy campaign. At six years old, it is in its prime, and with the British autumn and its reliably soggy weather still to come, there will be more days ahead when the ground comes up soft and Wen Moon's the yard will be quietly confident.
