That is not a horse flatlining — that is a horse building toward something. Two wins from its last six races, and it raced again just yesterday, suggesting the team at Wilmcote are keeping it busy while it is in form.

Sean Bowen has been the jockey most often in the saddle, partnering Wandering Ego in 8 of its 10 races. Together they have won 3 times — a win rate of 38%, or just under 2 in every 5 races they've run together. That is a meaningful partnership, and the kind of familiarity between horse and rider that often shows up in the results. Bowen clearly knows this horse well.

Trainer Olly Murphy, based in Wilmcote in Warwickshire, has had a remarkable season — 146 winners sent out already, which is the kind of output that marks a yard operating at the top of its game. Having a horse like Wandering Ego in form at this stage of the season is exactly what a busy, ambitious operation looks for.

All three of its wins have come elsewhere. That is worth watching. The horse clearly has ability, but whether it can translate its current momentum into a win at that higher level remains the open question. Given the form it is in, that answer may not be far away.
