Most horses scatter their wins across different venues; Vocito keeps coming back to that particular track and thriving. Normal ground suits it best too, with 4 wins from 18 races at 22% — nearly 1 in every 4 — on a standard surface. Ask it to perform on wet or muddy ground and the results drop away sharply.

Trained by Olly Murphy at Wilmcote in Warwickshire, Vocito is part of a yard currently firing on all cylinders — 146 winners this season is a serious number that puts Murphy among the busiest and most productive trainers operating right now. At Class 4 level, the grade Vocito most often competes at, the horse has won 5 of its 11 races there — nearly 1 in 2 — which suggests this is genuinely the right level for it to be competitive rather than merely making up the numbers. Its regular partnership with jockey Donagh Meyler, however, has yet to click: nine races together and no wins, which is the kind of statistic that raises a quiet question about whether a change in the saddle might unlock something.
