The most recent run came just yesterday, which makes Uncertainty one of the more active horses in training right now. Looking at the last six races — finishing eighth, fourth, second, fourth, fourteenth, and third — there is a story in there. The second and third place finishes show it can get close, but the eighth and fourteenth suggest inconsistency is a real issue. One bad day in every few outings is normal; two in six is harder to overlook.
Uncertainty competes at Class 5 level, which is the entry level of British racing — these are essentially the everyday, bread-and-butter races that fill out the bottom of the card. At that level, a horse should, in theory, have every chance of winning. Zero wins from three races at that grade is the kind of record that raises questions about whether conditions, distance, or simply timing need to change before this horse finds the front.
The horse is trained by Simon Whitaker, who operates out of Scarcroft in West Yorkshire. The yard has sent out three winners so far this season, so they clearly know how to get a horse to the line first — Uncertainty just hasn't been one of them yet. With a young horse still finding its feet, the trainer will be looking for the right opportunity to click everything into place. The second place finish in recent form at least suggests the ability is there, even if it keeps arriving just too late.
