The real story is the recent form. Look at the last six runs: a win, then three placed efforts, a second, and just yesterday a eleventh-place finish that looks like a dud. But before that collapse, Ultrasoul was on a roll — three wins from six races over the summer and early autumn, a win rate of exactly 50 percent over that stretch. Across the full career, the horse has won three times from ten races, a 30 percent win rate, which is genuinely solid for a Class 4 competitor. At that level specifically, Ultrasoul wins roughly one race in every five, so the recent burst was well above its usual performance envelope.

Roger Varian's Newmarket yard is humming this season with 87 winners to date, and Ultrasoul is part of that machinery. First tasted victory at Kempton Park back in September 2025, and has been racing regularly ever since — never idle, always testing itself. The question now is whether yesterday's poor run was a blip or a sign that the horse has come off the boil. With a win as recent as eight weeks ago and the ability to finish placed more often than not, there's clearly still a competitive animal here. What comes next will tell whether this 4-year-old can string another winning sequence together.
