Tropez Power

The seven-year-old has been a reliable if not spectacular earner, competing mostly at Class 4 level — solid, mid-tier racing — where it has won 4 of its 26 races (roughly 1 in every 6 at that grade). Its best trips are between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs, where it has won 3 of 23 races. Normal ground suits it well too: all four wins have come in standard conditions, at a rate of 4 from 18 (22%), which works out to winning roughly 1 in every 4 or 5 races when the track rides as it should. Walford has noted that fast, dry ground could be particularly important — Tropez Power didn't see much of it last season, which may help explain why wins have been harder to find recently.

The partnership with jockey Jason Hart has been the most productive of Tropez Power's career. Hart has ridden the horse 24 times, producing 3 of its 4 wins — a win rate of 12%, or roughly 1 in every 8 rides together. Walford's yard is in good form this season, having sent out 35 winners, and Tropez Power raced just yesterday, so it is very much an active part of the operation. The last win came at Southwell in April 2024, now 25 months ago, and the last six runs have brought finishes of 12th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 6th, and 8th — none threatening to break the drought. There is, however, a straightforward route back: get Tropez Power back to Southwell, on normal ground, over its favoured trip. On those terms, history suggests it remains a genuine threat.
