Trojan Sun

Goldie's yard at Uplawmoor in Lanarkshire has had a productive season by any measure — 88 winners sent out this season — and Trojan Sun is one of the horses carrying the flag. The horse's overall career record reads 5 wins and 12 places from 31 races, a win rate of around 16%, or roughly 1 in every 6 races. That sits comfortably within Class 5 company, where he has won 3 of his 15 races at that level. Nothing flashy, but a reliable and consistent performer who earns his keep.

What makes him interesting is how he wins rather than how often. Goldie has noted that Trojan Sun doesn't have many gears — he isn't the type to sit quietly in a pack and suddenly find an extra burst. He races best when he's in front, dictating the pace, which means the ride matters enormously. When Lauren Young gave him a positive, front-running ride at Musselburgh in August 2024, it clicked perfectly. He also handles wet, soft ground well, which in Scotland is hardly a rare commodity, and Goldie has flagged that getting him back onto that kind of surface is a priority before the season closes out.

His most recent win came at Nottingham in October 2025, and his last six runs read 8-3-9-9-11-1 — a dip in the middle, but that winning run is the most recent result before yesterday's race. He is currently active, which means the story is still unfolding. Goldie has indicated the yard won't bother with all-weather racing this winter and will instead be patient, waiting for next year. For a horse who has found his best form on grass in his own corner of Scotland, that patience seems entirely sensible.
