Tipperary Star

The recent form makes for harder reading. In its last six races, Tipperary Star has finished seventh, ninth, ninth, and seventh in the four completed runs, with two non-finishes in between. That's a sequence pointing in the wrong direction, and at eight years old, time isn't exactly on its side. Most horses at this level are either improving or in decline by now, and those finishing positions suggest the latter may be the more honest assessment.

Trained by Warren Greatrex out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, Tipperary Star at least has a capable yard behind it. Greatrex's team have sent out 50 winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse ready to win — the question is whether Tipperary Star still has a victory in it. Racing at Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing — the horse has gone winless from all three attempts at that grade. It raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping it busy and hoping something clicks.

For a casual observer, the honest summary is this: Tipperary Star is a seasoned campaigner who has seen plenty of racecourses without ever reaching the winner's enclosure. Sometimes that story ends with a long-awaited first win; more often, it doesn't. But it's still racing, still placing occasionally, and still in the hands of a yard that's clearly firing this season — so the door isn't completely closed.
