At three years old, there is still time for things to click. Young horses often take several races to find their rhythm, work out what is being asked of them, and meet a field that suits their ability. None of That's Random's three runs have produced anything to shout about, but the horse is still racing, still being entered, and that in itself suggests the team around it believe there is something worth drawing out.
That team is worth noting. Trainer Harry Charlton operates out of Beckhampton in Wiltshire, one of the most storied training yards in British racing, and has sent out 38 winners already this season — that is a yard in form, with horses running well and races being won. When a trainer of that output keeps persisting with a horse that has yet to trouble the scorers, it usually means they are seeing something at home on the gallops that the racecourse has not yet shown. Whether That's Random can justify that patience is the question. With one run just yesterday, the answer may not be far away.
