Both of those wins came in the summer and early autumn of 2025, first at Newcastle in August and then at Southwell in September. The fact that Tanjen hasn't won since that Southwell success — now eight months ago — is the obvious question hanging over every race at the moment. The horse is clearly capable, but converting that ability into a win has proved elusive.
What makes the situation quietly interesting is where Tanjen usually races. The bulk of appearances, six out of thirteen, have come at Class 5 level — the lower end of the racing ladder — and the record there reads zero wins from six. That's the kind of stat that raises an eyebrow. You'd expect a horse to find the easier company more manageable, not less. Whether that's down to the types of tracks used at that level, the distances, or simply bad luck is hard to say, but it's a pattern worth watching.
Jockey David Allan has been the regular partner, riding Tanjen in five of those thirteen races and winning one of them — a 20% win rate together, or 1 in every 5 rides. That's a solid enough partnership. The yard behind the horse is Tim Easterby's operation at Great Habton in North Yorkshire, one of the busiest and most productive in the north of England. With 126 winners already on the board this season, Easterby's team clearly know how to get a horse ready to win. Tanjen raced just yesterday, so this is a horse right in the middle of its season, with plenty of opportunity still to add to that tally.
