At its preferred trip of a mile and one or two furlongs, Swift Salian has won 3 of 13 races, a win rate of 23%, or almost 1 in every 4. At that distance, it is a genuinely different animal to the one that can look one-paced elsewhere.

The jockey partnership is worth noting. Connor Beasley has ridden Swift Salian six times and won twice — that is a win rate of 33%, or 1 in every 3 rides together. For context, the overall career win rate is half that. When Beasley is in the saddle at the right distance, this horse becomes a realistic winning chance.

The recent run of form demands honesty, though. Swift Salian has not won in its last six races, though two second-place finishes and a fourth in that stretch suggest the ability is still there, even if the winning thread has gone quiet. Having raced just yesterday, the horse is clearly in full training and being kept busy, which suggests the Barron yard believes there is another win in it soon. At the level Swift Salian typically competes — Class 5, the bread-and-butter of the racing calendar — it has won 2 of 12 races at that level, around 1 in every 6. Not dominant, but competitive enough that each run carries genuine expectation. The ingredients for another win are there. It is just a question of when they all come together again.
