That win came at Ffos Las on 28 July, roughly three weeks back, and it was Summerson's breakthrough. First career win at the fourth attempt marks a decent moment for any young horse — it had been placed twice before, so the pieces were clearly there, but getting over the line is always the hard part. Now trained by Roger Varian at Newmarket, Summerson is part of a yard that has already sent out 87 winners this season, so it's in a stable with genuine form and momentum behind it. Having tasted victory once, and shown the ability to run competitively right through its recent races, Summerson looks like a horse that could build on what it has done. Keep an eye on it.
