What makes the situation interesting is who is doing the waiting. Trainer Chris Dwyer operates out of Newmarket, the headquarters of British flat racing, and his yard has already sent out 8 winners this season — so this is clearly not a stable short of know-how. Dwyer's team will have seen plenty of young horses take time to find their feet, and the fact that Squashy Berry raced just yesterday suggests the yard is actively trying to find the right opportunity rather than shelving the horse. Whether that persistence pays off remains to be seen.

At this stage, Squashy Berry is simply a horse that hasn't arrived yet. Three races is a small sample, and 3-year-olds can improve sharply as the season progresses. The honest truth, though, is that there is nothing in the record so far that demands your attention — only the faint hope that the improving trend continues and the next profile has something more to say.
