That translates to a simple message: get him over the right distance and he becomes a different proposition. Stretch him beyond that, or drop him shorter, and you are probably wasting everyone's time.

His two wins have come at two very different venues. The first arrived at Chelmsford in August 2025, on an all-weather track that rewards horses who travel smoothly through a race. The second came at Brighton in October 2025 — a famously quirky seaside course with a pronounced camber and a stiff uphill finish that suits certain horses and baffles others entirely. The fact that South Kensington handled both suggests he has genuine versatility when conditions suit, even if consistency has been elusive.

That Brighton win was seven months ago, and recent form reads 2-9-6-5-1-7 — a mixed picture, with that second-place finish offering some encouragement but the other results suggesting he has been a little short of his best. He raced just one day ago, so he is clearly in active training and his team at the Kirtling yard in Newmarket are keeping him busy. Adam Kirby's yard has sent out six winners this season, which shows the operation is in reasonable working order.

One thing worth watching: South Kensington has yet to win at the level he most often competes at, going without a victory in five attempts at Class 5. Both of his wins have come when dropped into slightly different conditions or company. That is a curious detail — it hints at a horse who perhaps needs something specific to click, but when it does, he is worth following closely.
