Varian has a strong track record of taking three-year-olds who look unimpressive early and gradually improving them as the season goes on, so there is every reason to think Sound Gloria's current form is a starting point rather than a ceiling.

She raced just yesterday, which means she is very much an active project. Three races at three years old is still a relatively shallow sample — plenty of horses take time to mature physically and mentally before the pieces fall into place. For now, the results haven't come, but being trained by one of Newmarket's leading yards means she is at least in the right hands to find out what she is genuinely capable of.
