Somkiyr

The recent form makes for difficult reading. In its last six races, the best Somkiyr has managed is a fourth, with two sixths and a pair of eighths filling out the rest of the card. That is consistently mid-to-back-of-the-field stuff, and there is no obvious upward curve to point to. The horse raced just yesterday, so it is clearly an active, well-managed animal — trainer Andy Irvine, based at Ashurstwood in East Sussex, keeps it busy. Irvine's yard has sent out four winners this season, so the operation is clearly capable of producing results. It just hasn't happened yet with this particular horse.

Somkiyr typically lines up in Class 4 races — the middle tier of British racing, not the very bottom but not the sharp end either. From four races at that level, the record reads zero wins from four. The honest conclusion is that Somkiyr hasn't yet found a race it can win, and at this stage of its career, finding that elusive first victory is the only target worth chasing.
