Bowen has had a strong season, sending out 52 winners, and Sir Carnegie looks like one of the yard's more interesting projects. The trainer has spoken openly about the horse's jumping confidence being a work in progress — he has had falls over hurdles and spent time navigating fences too, before the team decided to settle him back over hurdles and let him grow into the job. That patience has paid off. Bowen has noted that the horse's jumping keeps improving with every run, and crucially, he stays all day — meaning he handles longer distances particularly well, which is a real asset at the kind of tracks he frequents.

The horse's favourite partner is jockey Shane Fenelon, who has ridden him in 8 of his races and won 2 of them — a win rate of 25%, or 1 in 4. That is a solid return. Sir Carnegie does his best work when there is some give in the ground — on slightly soft conditions he has won 2 from 5 races, a 40% win rate that is striking. He tends to compete at Class 5 level, one of the lower tiers of British racing, but within that grade he has won a third of the races he has entered — 2 wins from 6, which shows he is competitive when conditions suit.

His first career win came at Newcastle in October 2025, a result Bowen clearly targeted with care — he had flagged it weeks earlier on a stable tour, describing the long trip from Wales as worth it and saying Sir Carnegie would "take a lot of beating." He was right. Then, just this week, Sir Carnegie won again at Hexham, confirming that whatever confidence he lacked earlier in his career, he is building it race by race. With a horse that stays well, handles wet ground, and is racing as recently as yesterday, there may well be more to come before the season is out.
