The horse clearly relishes slightly soft ground. On yielding or wet conditions, he wins two races out of every five he runs in—a 40% win rate that stands out sharply against his overall record. That preference matters for a horse still learning. Trainer Mickey Bowen, based at Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, has emphasized that Sir Carnegie is a natural stayer who is steadily gaining confidence. His jumping, in particular, has been improving with each race, and after a few stumbles earlier in his career, he is now being run more sparingly in races where he can settle into his rhythm. When Bowen declared after a recent win that "he's growing with every run," it sounded less like polite trainer-speak and more like genuine observation of a horse maturing late into his racing life.

The partnership with jockey Shane Fenelon has yielded encouraging results: two wins from eight races together, a 25% win rate that beats the horse's overall numbers. At Class 5 level—smaller, more competitive races—Sir Carnegie has won two of six outings. He broke his duck at Newcastle on 30 October 2025, and his most recent win came at Hexham in June 2026, three months ago now. With the yard sending out 52 winners this season, Sir Carnegie has the infrastructure and experience behind him. At his current trajectory, and with a clear preference for soft ground and patient handling, he looks like a horse worth watching in the months ahead.
