On a tight, undulating Scottish track that sorts out horses quickly, Sir Benedict has won 2 of his 8 races — a 25% win rate at a venue where most horses visit once and never return. He first won there on 15 June 2022, and came back to do it again on 21 September 2025, which is only eight months ago. For a horse who wins roughly 1 in 13 races overall, winning 1 in 4 at a single track is a meaningful pattern, not a coincidence. Hamilton clearly suits him.

The conditions matter too. Sir Benedict goes best when the ground is normal — not too wet, not too firm — winning 2 from 11 races (18%) in those conditions. And shorten him up to a sprint under five furlongs and he wins 2 from 8 attempts, or 1 in every 4 races. That combination — Hamilton, standard ground, a sharp sprint trip — is effectively his sweet spot, and trainer Ben Haslam, based at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, has clearly worked that out. Haslam's yard has sent out 35 winners already this season, so this is a trainer who knows how to place a horse well.

Sir Benedict's most regular jockey is Shane Gray, who has ridden him 17 times and won twice, a win rate of around 1 in 9 together. He hasn't won in his last six races — finishing 4th, 8th, 6th, 2nd, 5th, and 4th in that run — but he raced just yesterday and remains very much in action. At his age, with his record, nobody is expecting him to suddenly become a different horse. But put him back at Hamilton, on decent ground, over a short trip, and he has shown more than once that he knows exactly what to do.
