Savrola

The standout moment of Savrola's career came on 28 June 2025 at Newcastle, where the horse landed a Class 2 race — one of the top tier of races in Britain. That's a significant step up from the Class 4 company Savrola usually occupies, where the record reads just 1 win from 12 attempts, or roughly 1 in every 12. The jump in class to win a Class 2 suggests there's more ability in this horse than the day-to-day form might lead you to believe. Some horses simply need the right conditions and the right moment, and Savrola found both that day at Newcastle.

The horse is trained by Mrs Dianne Sayer, whose yard is tucked away in Hackthorpe, Cumbria — about as far from the glamour of Newmarket as you can get, and all the more satisfying for it. The yard has sent out 15 winners this season, which is a solid operation, and Savrola's Class 2 success will have been a highlight. Savrola first got off the mark back in July 2022 at Haydock Park, so there's been a long journey from that debut win to this most recent high point three years later.

The recent run of form is a little mixed — the last six results read 15th, 7th, 11th, 2nd, 1st, 2nd going back in time, so the Newcastle win is sandwiched between some quieter efforts. Savrola clearly has days when things click and days when they don't. What does seem consistent is a preference for normal conditions underfoot — 2 wins from 5 races on standard ground works out at 40%, which is a strong return. And at seven furlongs to a mile, the horse has won 1 from 3, or 33%, suggesting that trip suits well.

One curious note: regular jockey Daniel Muscutt has ridden Savrola five times without a win together. Given that the horse has won five races in total, someone else has been in the plate for all of them. With the horse having raced just yesterday and still active, there may well be more chapters to come.
