Rainwater

The two wins that do exist are worth looking at closely. The first came at Wolverhampton in November 2024, and the second at Hamilton Park in June 2025 — both over a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs, which is clearly where Rainwater is most comfortable. At that distance, the record reads two wins from 16 races, a 12% win rate, or about one in every eight. Compare that to a blank record at the level it most often races at — Class 5, the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — and you start to see the puzzle. The distance suits, but something at that competitive level keeps getting in the way.

Jockey Oisin Orr has been in the saddle for nine of those 35 races and has one win to show for it, winning roughly one in every nine rides together. That is modest but not unusual for a horse at this level. The yard behind Rainwater is the Richard and Peter Fahey operation, a well-established northern training base at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire, with two winners on the board so far this season.

Recent form offers little to get excited about. The last six runs show a couple of mid-field finishes, a second place that hints at a return to form, and two unplaced efforts either side of it. Rainwater has not won in any of those six races, and the last victory came over eleven months ago. The horse raced just yesterday, so is clearly in active work and being kept busy. Whether another win is coming is the question the form book is refusing to answer clearly — but then, that has always been Rainwater's way.
