Quicken Away

The horse was trained by Andrew Balding at Kingsclere in Hampshire, where the yard has been prolific this season with 202 winners sent out. Quicken Away's first win came at Wolverhampton on 8 February 2025, and it returned to win again at the same track on 17 March 2025 — but that was 17 months ago, and there have been no victories since. The recent form is a dry spell: from its last six races, the best it has managed is a second place, sandwiched among finishes of ninth, fourth, tenth, twelfth, and eleventh.

The picture becomes clearer when you look at what Quicken Away prefers. On normal ground — neither waterlogged nor rock hard — the horse has won twice from 16 races (12 percent). In races of 1 mile 1 furlong to 1 mile 2 furlongs, it wins at 12 percent, again from 16 attempts. At Class 6 level, which is where it typically runs, it has won both its races from 17 outings. What emerges is a horse that thrives under very specific conditions: Wolverhampton, standard ground, mid-distance racing at the lower levels. The challenge now is whether Quicken Away can rediscover that formula after 17 months without a win.
