Precious Jean is trained by Suzy Smith, who operates out of Angmering in West Sussex. It is a small operation, and this season the yard has sent out just one winner in total, so this is not a yard drowning in ammunition. Smith deserves credit for keeping a horse like this in work and looking for opportunities, but the results have not come.
At Class 5, which is effectively the bottom rung of British racing, Precious Jean has managed nothing from three attempts. Class 5 is where horses go when the options elsewhere have dried up, and even there, the frame has stayed out of reach. Without a win or a place from eight career races, there is no evidence yet that a breakthrough is coming — though the horse did race just yesterday, which at least suggests the team still believes there is a race to be won somewhere down the line.
