That is a meaningfully better return than his overall record suggests, and it tells you something about where his best chance of winning lies.

Carlisle is where he really comes alive. Two wins from just 6 races there is a remarkable ratio for a horse at this level — the equivalent of a pub quiz team that somehow turns unbeatable the moment they walk into one particular venue. At 11, Poet's Dawn is not going to suddenly become a different horse. But a horse who still races, still wins, and still clearly enjoys the whole thing? That is its own kind of achievement.
