That solitary win came at Pontefract back in July 2022, and it remains the only time Piecederesistance has reached the winner's enclosure — a gap of 46 months and counting. For context, that's nearly four years without a victory. The horse hasn't gone missing, though. Those 11 placed efforts show it regularly runs competitive races at Class 4 level, the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, without quite finding that extra gear when it matters most.

The most productive distance has been a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, where Piecederesistance has run 16 times and won once — 1 in every 16 attempts at that trip. It isn't a barnstorming figure, but the fact the yard keeps returning to that range suggests it's where the horse is most comfortable. Billy Garritty is the jockey who knows it best, having ridden it nine times together for that one win — winning roughly 1 in every 9 rides, which is actually a better return than the overall career record suggests.

Trained by Martin Keighley out of Luckley in Gloucestershire, Piecederesistance is part of a yard that has sent out 19 winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get horses ready to win. The recent form — a third and a fifth among the last six runs — shows the horse is still placing, still in the mix, and still racing as recently as yesterday. At eight years old, with the clock ticking, each run feels like another roll of the dice on a second career win that is long overdue.
