Pickersgill

The first win came at The Curragh in Ireland on 29 March 2025 — one of the most famous racecourses in the world — and the second arrived just over a year later at Southwell in England. Winning at two different tracks, in two different countries, shows a degree of adaptability that not every horse manages.

Pickersgill is trained by Iain Jardine, who operates out of Carrutherstown in Dumfries and Galloway in southwest Scotland. The yard has sent out 57 winners this season alone, which tells you this is not a small or quiet operation — Jardine knows how to get horses fit and ready to perform. The most regular jockey in the saddle is Robbie Colgan, who has partnered Pickersgill in 9 of its 13 races, winning once together. That is a win rate of 11% — just over 1 in every 9 rides — but the partnership has clearly been there through the tougher spells too, which often counts for something when a horse starts to find its feet again. The recent Southwell win suggests Pickersgill may be hitting a purple patch at just the right time.
