The win came at Kempton Park on 8th April 2026, and at a distance of a mile and three or four furlongs, which is where Pershalla clearly feels most at home. Over that trip, the record reads 1 win from 5 races — a 20% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 5 — which is a meaningful number. It suggests that when Pershalla lines up at the right distance, it becomes a genuine contender rather than a passenger.
What is a little puzzling is the class picture. Pershalla has run four times at Class 5 — the more accessible end of the racing ladder — and has yet to win at that level, despite picking up a victory in a higher-grade race at Kempton. That kind of record can happen when a horse is unexpectedly well-suited to a specific track or set of conditions rather than a specific grade. Kempton's flat, all-weather oval is a very different test to a conventional turf track, and some horses simply love it there.
Amanda Perrett trains Pershalla from her yard in Pulborough, West Sussex, and has sent out 5 winners already this season — a yard in decent nick. Perrett is a careful, patient handler, and the step forward Pershalla has shown in recent months looks like the product of a horse finally being understood rather than simply improving with age. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday and clearly being kept busy, the team appear to believe there is more to come.
