That is not a coincidence. Something about that track suits him, whether it is the shape of the course, the way the ground rides there, or simply the trip. Whatever it is, the yard — the team — know it, and punters are starting to as well.

He also has a clear preference for wet ground. On slightly soft conditions, he has won 2 of 5 races — a 40% win rate — which is the kind of number that makes you want to check the weather forecast before his next run. Overall across his career he wins roughly 1 in every 6 races, but on his preferred ground that jumps to 2 in 5. That is a horse that transforms in the right conditions.

His partnership with jockey Mr Alex Chadwick is worth noting too. Together they have won 3 of their 9 races — 1 in every 3, which is a remarkable ratio in a sport where even the very best riders win far less often than they lose. James Owen, who trains him out of Newmarket, has had a productive season with 201 winners from the yard, so One Big Bang is operating in good company.

With his last run just yesterday and recent form reading 6-3-3-3-1-2 — two placings and a win from the last three outings — this is a horse hitting a purple patch at eight years old. At this stage in a horse's career you might expect decline. One Big Bang is doing the opposite.
