Northwest Passage

That one breakthrough came at Salisbury on 12 September 2025, and the recent form shows the horse is still very much in the mix. Reading the last six races from most recent backwards — 5th, 10th, 5th, 7th, 2nd, 1st — there's a clear story of a horse that won, ran a cracker next time in second, then found things tougher in its subsequent outings. The 10th is the one that jars, but horses have bad days, and the return to a 5th suggests it has steadied again. Crucially, Northwest Passage raced just yesterday, so it is very much in active training and being aimed at targets.

The distance range of a mile and one furlong to a mile and two furlongs looks like home territory, and that is where the sole win came. Winning 1 from 9 races at those trips gives an 11% win rate — about 1 in every 9 — which is meaningfully better than its overall record across all distances. That kind of pattern matters. It suggests the team at Ivan Furtado's yard in Wiseton, South Yorkshire, know what they have on their hands and where to place it to best effect.

Furtado's yard has sent out 34 winners this season, which marks it out as a stable in decent form. Northwest Passage has mainly competed at Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing — and has yet to win there in 7 attempts, which will be a target to address. But with a horse that places regularly and clearly goes well over a specific trip, the ingredients for another winning day are there. Salisbury is already in the history books. The question is where the next one comes.
